Hetao college is located in Linhe District of Bayannaoer City, the center of the rich and beautiful Hetao Plain, to the north of which is Yinshan mountains and to the south the Yellow River. Covering extensive disciplines and comprising regular higher education, vocational education, continuing education, distance education and community education, it is a state-run comprehensive college which aims to cultivate skillful talents of high quality.

Wu Lanfu, the former Vice-President of China, autographed the school name in 1985. The college has 14 departments – Department of Mongolia Language and Literature, Department of Chinese Literature, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Department of Physiology, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Department, Department of Civil Engineering,Agriculture Department, Department of Medicine,,Department of Economic Management.

The number of the enrolled students now is over 16,000, of which more than 9,000 are full-time students. The college has 489 full-time teachers, among which 275 have the academic title of associate professor or professor, and more than 100 hold double qualification certificates. 40 higher vocational specialties will recruit students in more than ten provinces in 2010. Sticking to“ the employment-oriented and ability-emphasized idea”, the college continually optimizes the educational environment, upgrades the school-running strength and makes efforts to provide better talent and intellectual support for the economic development and social progress.
